Deacons and Deaconesses Election

Dear CoaH,

We will be electing officers for both EM and KM in July. To run our ministry well, we need ten more Deacons /Deaconesses. In addition, we will also vote to reinstate Howard Uh, who was our ordained deacon before. Let me share the new format of our election process.

First, there will be recommendations by the LT members and the officers.

Six LT members and eleven deacons will submit names from the list of qualified people (having completed D1 and D2). If the person has not completed D2, they will need to finish it before being ordained. Hopefully, we will come up with twenty names to put on the ballot.

Second, the congregation will vote.

The congregation will vote on July 10th. Those who receive more than 50% of the votes will be elected. Voting to reinstate Howard Uh will take place at the same time. If ten people are not selected, we will vote one more time the following Sunday. If, for example, five spots are still not filled, then five individuals with the most votes will be on the second Sunday’s ballot. Again, each of the five individuals will need to receive more than 50%.

Third, we must encourage female leaders.

We must recognize female leadership as God has given both men and women leadership qualities. It has been a long time since we have chosen female leaders for CoaH. Many of them are already serving our congregation well. We must recognize that reality.

Couples may end up being elected as officers together. That will be great. I think of Aquila and Priscilla. As a husband-and-wife team, they served the church well. Paul was deeply grateful for them, “Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus. They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them.” (Rom. 16:3-4)
