Outreach & Missions

“Our God is a missionary God” (John Stott)

God pursued us first when we were lost and dead in our sins. If this is true, then the church should, undoubtedly, participate in this work as well – God’s heart for missions must lie at the heart of who we are.

Missions, then, is our response in action and lifestyle to our faith in God’s gift of grace and salvation through Jesus Christ. We must fulfill the Great Commission of Christ by proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, making disciples and ministering to the whole need of mankind – physically, emotionally, relationally, but most importantly, spiritually. We are guided in these endeavours by Scripture (Mt. 28:19-20, Mt. 25:31-46, Mark 16:15-16, Acts 1:8, Luke 10:2, Luke 4:18, Romans 10:13-15, 1 Timothy 2:5, Revelation 5:9-10, Genesis 12:1-3).

The reality, however, is that Christians are becoming more inward focused and less outreach-oriented. As followers of Christ, we should not let our sins (selfishness, pride, desire for security, comfort, etc.) lead us astray from this calling that we have received. We, too, must pursue after those who are lost and dead in this dark and hopeless world. God’s mission flings us out into God’s world with God’s Word.

Local Missions

Our church is dedicated to reach those in our city. Currently our church is involved in local evangelism through Christianity Explored Bible studies for seekers, reaching the needy through Toronto City Mission, feeding the homeless through Cornerstone, and church planting (in St. Jamestown).

Our church is dedicated to global missions. It is at the centre of what we are doing as a church. We believe that our God is a missionary God and that the church exists to do missions. City on a Hill is partnering with missionaries in Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Cambodia, and India.

OUR MISSION PHILOSOPHY

“The whole church taking the whole gospel to the whole world.”

Our mission philosophy is based on the Lausanne Covenant (1974), the Manila Manifesto (1989) and the Cape Town Commitment (2010).

  • We commit to Missions with the firm assurance that the Church is at the very centre of God’s cosmic purpose and is His appointed means of spreading the gospel.

  • We seek to take a holistic approach to Missions which involves both the proclamation of the Gospel and the engagement of the culture. With God's help, the result will be the building up of churches deeply rooted in Christ and closely related to their culture.

  • We place special attention on unreached people groups.
