Your Feedback is Needed

Dear CoaH,

Dear CoaH,

We will conduct an anonymous survey.

It is time to plan for the new year. The planning Session has begun, and the elders and I have been discussing the big transition for the next two years. As I mentioned to you before, the Lord willing, I plan to retire by the end of 2024. That means we must actively look for the next senior pastor. As a first step, I would like to conduct an anonymous survey on the calling of the senior pastor. I want all church members to participate in the survey so that everyone has a say and takes ownership of the whole process. We can also pray together.

The survey will ask about your gender (M/F) and age category (under 20, ’20s-’30s, ’40s-’50s, ’60s-’70s, 80 and over), followed by four open-ended questions about your expectations.

Here are the questions:

1. Please list three leadership qualities or virtues you expect from the future senior pastor. (By leadership qualities and virtues, we mean the pastor’s spirituality, character, ministry capability, etc. But in addition, you can think of the pastor’s vision for the church and the ability to minister to Korean and English-speaking congregations.)

2. Please list three key ministry areas the future senior pastor should focus on. (I am sure the new pastor will have many things on his plate. But what are, say, three key areas you consider the pastor should focus on?)

3. Kindly share your thoughts on how Young Nak Church of Toronto should change as we minister to people living in the multicultural Greater Toronto Area. (This is a critical question. Who is our church for? How do we go from the first-generation immigrants to the second, third, and beyond the Korean ethnicity?)

4. Kindly share any expectations or requests you might have about the search committee. (For example, how would you like to see the search committee communicate with the congregation from time to time? What steps would you like to see in calling the pastor?)

The survey will take place next month (starting next week). It will be online (link on the homepage) or offline (collection box available in several locations inside the church). If necessary, we will extend the survey period to two months.

Thank you in advance for your interest and participation.

Blessings,

Pastor Minho Song
