The Opportunity Will Come

Dear CoaH,

Living in the 21st century, the notion of believing, relying on, and worshiping the God who created the heavens and the earth has almost disappeared from most people’s minds. Instead, people put more trust in cutting-edge science and technology, believing that we humans can create a fulfilling and stable life with human wisdom and effort. Our desire to know and trust God seems less critical as humanity moves on.

Last Friday, Rogers customers were in for a surprise. Their internet service was not available. Rogers, one of the three big telecommunication giants in Canada, could not provide mobile phone or internet services due to their network outage, which had a far-reaching impact on business. Customers in many shops could not use the debit/credit card system. Getting some cash was difficult because the ATMs connected to Rogers were also down.

The Friday fiasco proved how much we rely on cutting-edge science and technology. Thankfully, the company worked hard to bring back internet service by the next day, and people’s online activities were back. Here is my question for you. How do we communicate the importance of spiritual things to people unaware or uninterested in them? I believe God prepares the hearts of those who long for something more than the material world can provide. Our job is to wait patiently and respond to those seeking the truth. The opportunity to share Jesus will come.

Blaise Pascal’s (1623-1662) words come to mind:

“There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ.”

May the LORD bless you and keep you safe.
