Book of the Year: Knowing God & announcement
Dear COAH,
This year we are bringing back, Book of the Year, where we as a congregation read and study one book together. The purpose is so that we can grow together and to have a common knowledge base.
This year’s book is the classic, Knowing God by J.I. Packer. Knowing God was first published in 1973 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023. It is always on people’s recommended reading list and it is considered to be one of those books Christians ought to read.
I remember the first time reading Knowing God when I was in university. It was a gift from a Christian friend and one of the first Christian books I read. It was probably one of the most influential books for my Christian growth. It was such an eye-opening book, which had a huge impact on my view and understanding of God. There were parts that I didn’t fully get, making me aware that there were many areas where I needed to learn and grow. But I was glad for the challenge, for it created a desire to know God more.
In 2022, I reread Knowing God, and this time I was able to gleam more from the book. A good book is always worth rereading. I know that many of you might have read Knowing God in the past, but:
“Reading books is good,
Rereading good books is better.”
-Lawrence Clark Powell-
So, I would like to encourage everybody at COAH to read Knowing God in 2025. We are planning to do a book study through Wednesday in the Word (Feb to March) and a possible short sermon series in August. I look forward to reading this book together, to share with each other what God is teaching us about Himself, and how we can love Him more.
Blessings,
Pastor Kyu Park
