Praising God should be a priority.
Dear COAH,
When we are filled with the Spirit, one of the things we love to do is to praise the Lord. We want to sing hymns and gospel songs to our God. During the days of Dwight Moody’s revival in the 1870s and 1880s, many people composed and sang gospel songs because they were so grateful for what Christ had done in their lives. Have you heard of “Showers of Blessing” or “I know not why God’s wondrous grace” (lyrics by Daniel Webster Whittle (1840-1901) and music by James McGranahan (1840-1907)? Whittle and McGranahan’s hearts were fired up when they came and listened to Moody’s revival preaching. They wrote many beautiful gospel songs, some in our hymn books today.
I know not why God’s wondrous grace
To me He hath made known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love
Redeemed me for His own.
But “I know Whom I have believed
And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed
Unto Him against that day.”
Let me ask, ‘How much is praising God a priority in your life?’ If you love praising God, you know the benefits that it brings. When we praise God, our hearts warm up. We dwell on what God has done through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. We become grateful despite the hardships we may face. We confess that Jesus is Lord and our lives are in God’s hands.
Praising God ought to be a priority in our lives. Let us praise the Lord at all times. The Psalmist reminds us,
Praise the Lord, you, his servants;
praise the name of the Lord.
Let the name of the Lord be praised,
both now and forevermore.
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the Lord is to be praised. (Ps. 113:1-3)
Blessings,
