Highest Attendance

Dear Church,

The Toronto Blue Jays are returning to the Rogers Center on July 30th. It will have been almost two years since we last saw them in their home stadium. The border closing meant that the team had to play their home games in Dunedin, Florida, or Buffalo, New York. Recent permission by the government allowed them to return to Toronto and other teams from the US. In 39 minutes, the Blue Jays sold all 15,000 tickets. Granted that the number of tickets sold was way less than the 50,000-seating capacity, it still shows how eager the fans are to see their team back. I heard that some tickets go as high as 2,000 dollars in the black market.

Not only the baseball stadium but also some restaurants are in full gear. I went for lunch at a Korean restaurant yesterday and could not get in because there were too many people. It was a sight to behold! Well, what do you think? Don’t you think it is time for the church to be full again? If you are hesitant to come back because you haven’t worshipped in person for the past year and a half, do not worry. It will only take one visit to have all those memories and experiences come back. At present, the government does not limit the seating capacity if the two-meter social distance is maintained. Our main sanctuary can take 180 persons easily.

Unfortunately, the house of worship is not filling up fast. I don’t know why. If you have received your second jab, yet you are still hesitant to come, I wonder what keeps you. If you are willing to go to a baseball game or dine in a restaurant but still hesitant to worship in person, you will need to probe deep into your heart and find out what is bordering you. I heard someone say that the 8 AM service is too early for her. Well, we will add a 10 AM service starting on August 1st (Sunday). I hope she makes it. For City on a Hill, the 2 PM service is well attended, but there is still room for more. Would you please bear with us as we are not done with the roofing work and, therefore, still without the air conditioning? Nonetheless, we will go ahead with the additional service.

Now is the appropriate time to switch back to the in-person worship service. Let us look forward to worshipping with other brothers and sisters as we come to God. After reading this pastoral letter, I invite you to register your name for this Sunday’s worship at the link below. Thank you.

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;

    let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song. (Ps. 95:1-2

May the LORD bless you and keep you strong.
