The 46th General Assembly of Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad

Dear CoaH,

The 46th General Assembly of Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad took place in Sacramento, California, this week. The delegates came from as far as Australia and Japan. Most came from Canada and the States. It was good to see many familiar faces after the pandemic. The last in-person meeting was in Vancouver three years ago.

The assembly spent a lot of time on the legal challenge concerning Young Nak Church of Los Angeles, which is like the mother church of our denomination. It broke away from our denomination last year when the presbytery summoned its pastor to answer some questions related to the handling of the scholarship funds. The problem goes deeper into handling interpersonal conflicts in the church. When not handled properly, it grows like a wildfire affecting the whole church, the presbytery, and the entire denomination.

As if the problem of YN church of LA was not enough, our rented cars were broken into while we were having breakfast at IHOP. It was a bright day, but the thieves were audacious. It took them less than ten minutes to break the windows of five cars and take our bags, some containing passports. I lost my bag, too. It was so sad to lose my bag that has been with me for more than 20 years going back to my missionary years. I pray that these thieves realize someday that the Bible they stole from my bag will guide their souls to repentance.

May the LORD bless you and keep you safe.

Pastor Minho Song
