The Future of the Korean Church is Not Bleak
Dear CoaH,
I've heard people say that the Korean church faces a difficult road ahead, as enrollment in the Sunday School is critically low, and the church is aging. But I sensed on this trip to Korea that the Korean church was still in good shape. Although church activities have been stagnant in the aftermath of the pandemic, I am confident that the Korean church will remain strong so long as there are faithful prayer warriors.
I met many believers who truly cared for their church. One elder I met was busy sharing the gospel with others. He even shared Jesus with the server, who brought food to our table. I was worried that the server would get offended. I thought, 'Oh, no, the elder shouldn't force the issue like that …' Contrary to my thinking, the elder was courteous throughout, and the server did not seem offended.
Another believer I met was deeply concerned about the current state of the Korean church and longed for God's justice to reign in both the Korean church and society. He said Christians should bring prophetic words to the world in which they live while relying on God's Word and the Spirit. As long as there are people like that, I think the Korean church will overcome the current difficulties and work towards a brighter future. True, there needs to be a concerted effort to bring children and young people back to church. Without them, there is no future. I thank God for the past two and a half weeks of travel in Korea. I believe that there is still hope for the Korean church.
Blessings,
Pastor Minho Song
