Examination and Restoration of the Resurrection
The core of the Christian faith lies in resurrection. However, unfortunately, I feel that many believers do not consider believing in the resurrection important. Among church holidays, Christmas is always meaningful. In comparison, Easter seems to be considered just one of many holidays. However, Easter is a holiday that should be considered especially important in the church calendar. Belief in resurrection should be the center of our confession of faith.
This is data from a few years ago. A survey was conducted with the question, “Do you believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected after his death?” It was a survey conducted by an American organization targeting Christian youth around the world. In this survey, 33% of youth around the world answered that they believe. Only 28% of Korean youth answered that they do. The answers to other related questions are also eye-catching. When asked, “Do you find great joy and satisfaction through your relationship with Jesus?”, the number of Korean Christian youth who answered positively was very low. While 76% of youth around the world answered yes, only 38% of Korean youth answered yes. Of course, the survey results will vary by generation and ethnicity. However, the current situation of Christian youth is the near future of the church. I feel that doctrine and Christian education based on faith in the resurrection are very urgent.
According to the Heidelberg Catechism, the resurrection of Christ benefits us in three ways. First, because Jesus Christ overcame death through His resurrection, we have come to share in His righteousness. Second, the power of the resurrection enables us to live a new life. Third, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a sure guarantee that we will also experience a glorious resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is not a vague concept or symbol. Faith in the resurrection is the power of God that changes our existence, the shape and direction of our lives. We experience this power practically through faith. This faith makes our lives dynamic.
As we go through this Easter Sunday, I hope that each of us will re-examine the foundation of our faith. First, I hope that you examine your own faith in the resurrection. If you feel that you lack faith in the resurrection, I recommend that you take the time to study the doctrine. We also plan to provide programs on doctrine study in the future. Whenever you have the opportunity, please read devotional books on doctrine and the Bible. Our faith will grow completely. Jesus Christ is risen. Hallelujah!
Blessings,
