Marriage Enrichment Classes

Dear COAH,

Have you heard the saying “happy wife, happy life”? For married people, this is often the advice many husbands get. I recently heard, “happy spouse, happy house,” a more inclusive saying acknowledging that both partners contribute equally to a healthy, meaningful relationship and home.

For the past 20 years, on the Korean Ministry of(KM) side, Rev. Song ran marriage enrichment classes called “Happy Couples.” The goal of “Happy Couples” was to strengthen and support the marriages at YoungNak church. Through the 20 years, several hundred couples participated and helped countless couples along the way.  Last November, as Rev. Song was wrapping up his ministry, he invited COAH to participate in the final session of the “Happy Couples”, with the hope that COAH could have its own marriage enrichment classes to encourage and strengthen marriages in our congregations. Four couples from COAH joined KM couples for the last session, and we were all richly blessed and encouraged.

In April, we are launching our version of “Happy Couples” (the current working title, but we are planning to revise the name). It will be a four-week series on Wednesday evenings (7 to 9 p.m.) followed by a retreat (April 25-26). The format of the classes will be similar to Alpha. We will first gather to share a meal or refreshment, a 20-minute presentation on topics about marriage, and then time together to share in small groups. After the Wednesday evening session, there will be a retreat where couples will renew their vows and read love letters to each other. We are hoping that “Happy Couples” (just a working title) will become an established ministry at COAH, that will encourage and strengthen our couples.

So, things to know, yes childcare will be provided, you must be committed to the full four sessions and the retreat and the cost will be $30 (plus book purchase). We are looking for 6 to 8 couples to participate in this initial launch. You can sign up through our Church app, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or any of the four couples that participated last November.

Blessings,
Pastor Kyu Park
