My Preaching Ministry

Dear COAH,

It has been both a tremendous burden and a great blessing to preach God's Word to the members of our beloved community at Young Nak for the past twenty years. There are a few principles that I have tried to follow over the years when it comes to preaching:

  • My message will come from the text. I must refrain from putting messages into the text.

  • The sermon is for the edification of the saints. It must not be used for other purposes.

  • The preacher is part of the congregation. Therefore, I must hear and practice the same things that I expect the congregation members to hear and practice.

  • The sermon should come evenly from both the Old and New Testaments.

  • Two or three illustrations should be included in the sermon. I must avoid those dry sermons with no illustrations or those that overwhelm the text with illustrations.

  • I will write a full manuscript for each sermon.

  • I will faithfully proclaim the life God wants us to live.

Although there have been times when I have failed to follow the principles I have set out, I can say with confidence that for the most part, I have been faithful. I now have seven Sundays left before my retirement!

I intend to preach on Jesus' self-proclamation of "I AM..." from the Gospel of John.

  • I AM the bread of life (John 6:35).

  •  I AM the light of the world (John 8:12).

  • I AM the gate of sheep (John 10:7).

  • I AM the good shepherd (John 10:11, 14).

  • I AM the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).

  •  I AM the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

  • I AM the true vine (John 15:1).

I hope this sermon series will help you examine what it means to follow Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour.

Blessings,
Pastor Minho Song
