The Kyrgyz Population has Grown

Our church adopted the Kyrgyz people in 1997, pledging to God that we would be committed to evangelizing this people group. Since then, we have sent five missionary families (including two self-supporting missionaries) to plant churches, work in seminaries and language centers, and have sponsored several partner missionaries and mission organizations. Although we no longer have commissioned missionaries on the field, our church will continue praying for and supporting the Kyrgyz people.

I had strong thoughts about sending missionaries again after visiting Kyrgyzstan with a short-term team last September. Our current involvement in the country is centered around our ongoing support of the Jaryk Centre (a language school) by City on a Hill, our sponsorship of three seminaries in Bishkek, Osh, and Karakol, as well as financially supporting an MK school, a ministry to children, and several missionary families. I hope to see our church send missionaries to Kyrgyzstan again soon because the country needs the gospel now more than it has in 27 years. When we adopted the Kyrgyz people in 1997, the total population was 4.73 million. Now, it has grown to 7.18 million. In the meantime, the number of mosques has grown beyond comparison to the number of churches. In a way, now is the time to sow the seeds of the gospel more diligently and prepare for a bountiful harvest in the future.

I pray that our church members, especially those in their 20s and 30s, will seriously consider going to Kyrgyzstan. When we send our own, our prayers will strengthen, and our interest in the land will grow. May we see the younger generation follow in the footsteps of the first generation of missionaries who were committed to the Kyrgyz people and served them wholeheartedly!

“Then came a great multitude, which no one could number, out of every nation, kindred, people, and tongue, clothed in white robes, having palm branches in their hands, and standing before the throne and before the Lamb, crying with a loud voice, saying, Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb” (Revelation 7:9-10).

The Kyrgyz people we evangelize will surely be included in the heavenly feast!

Blessings,
Pastor Minho Song
