Moving Forward
Dear Church,
In my 30 plus years of ministry, one of the things I am still trying to improve is my communication skills. Getting across a message clearly is still a challenge for me after all these years. Just because it is clear in my mind does not necessarily mean the same for others. I meant it well, but it might have a different effect on others. In the past several months during the CoaH transition, I could have been clearer and more direct to minimize any confusion or misunderstanding.
I would like to invite you to a townhall meeting next Friday evening (Sept. 24). I hope to communicate with you about the process of moving forward. I also want to hear from you about how you are doing and how you would like to see CoaH move forward. As you know, we are in the process of inviting a pastor. Your input is important. I also want to discuss with you, possibly changing the worship time from 2 pm to 12 pm so that we can combine 2 pm and 12 pm Sunday classes into one. I want to know how you feel about that.
I appreciate the maturity and patience you have shown over the past several months. You have kept your poise despite so many changes that were taking place before your eyes. Some of you stepped up in big ways to help settle the congregation and get back to the call God has given us. I am grateful that a part of us has started a new church plant and a part of us has remained and made a commitment to move forward. Some of us are still in a prayerful mode about what to do. My prayer is that in all cases, the Lord will give us peace and the right hearts.
For the next six weeks (Tuesdays; 7:30pm-9:30pm; via zoom), the leaders of CoaH and anyone else who is interested will come together to study the identity and mission of the people of God. We will read and discuss together Christopher Wright’s the Mission of God’s People. I will also give six talks about the missional church. The talks will be based on my book that I wrote last year in Korean, Making a Transition: From a Traditional to a Missional Church. The registration is closed as of last Tuesday, but if you somehow missed and still want to join the class, please contact office@coahtoronto.com before the first session on Sept. 21.
May the LORD bless you and keep you strong.
